The Bible doesn't tell us his name,
but one of the spectators at the Cross, did a most marvelous thing!

Matthew 27:48-49

When Jesus, dehydrated, after six hours on the Cross, uttered the words, "I thirst", this man immediately responded, and dipped a sponge in vinegar, put it on a stick, and lifted it up to Jesus' mouth, on the Cross!

Wow! Double wow!!

Jesus Himself had told His disciples that, " ... whosoever shall give you a cup of water to drink in my name, because ye belong to Christ, verily I say unto you, HE SHALL NOT LOSE HIS REWARD.

Blessed man, whoever he was, who offered Jesus, something to drink, in His thirst!
..
Bible says, the man did it immediately, and he didn't walk, he ran!
That's honor. He honored Jesus!
He ministered to God's thirst!

God is Thirsty!

° And for being KNOWN!

Jesus received the vinegar! (John 19.30)

Centuries earlier, David had prophesied about the Cross, in Psalm 22.
..
Verse 15 says, " my strength is dried up like a potsherd; and my tongue cleaves to my jaws ..."

David again in Psalm 69, "They gave me also gall for my meat; AND IN MY THIRST THEY GAVE ME VINEGAR TO DRINK. (vs. 21)

Another Wow!

That man didn't know that he was fulfilling Scripture, as he stretched out the vinegar to Jesus!
..
Energized and hastened by a prophetic word, he went into action for Jesus!
..
Meanwhile, the rest of the onlookers dissuaded him. They said in effect, "Ah, leave him alone in his thirst, let's see if his cry for Elijah will bear any fruit!"
..
How cold they were towards Jesus, in his hour of need.
But this one man, was touched by the feeling of the Lord's infirmity!

Something about that act, prompted Jesus to conclude the crucifixion!
Right after the vinegar, He said," IT IS FINISHED"!
